While craft shopping, customers are delighted with great food, live music, and Vermont craft beers served by Idletyme Brewery, all inside a heated dining tent. Besides savoring Vermont food and drink, there are many craft demos.

Craftproducers is proud to feature Zhong-Hua Lu as one of its demonstrating exhibitors at this year’ show. Joining him are Vermonters Richard Foye and his compelling Raku pottery demo. Piper Strong, another Vermonter, will showcase her welding techniques creating a new take on classical masterpieces.

According to organizers of American Craft Week, “While other industry associations have long touted their products, the craft industry has lacked a single way to be highly visible. Crafts enrich our homes, wardrobes, offices and public spaces. The crafts industry contributes to our nation’s economy and the fabric of our national history. Craft work is original, beautiful and enduring. “As one craft artist put it, “this is the creative economy!”

Spending time with Japanese prints in my home, visiting Japanese prints at the homes of friends and neighbors, at museums, and through books, was largely how I learned in the early formative years.” Brown uses the hangar method – a woodblock printing technique using water as a medium. The 5th Annual Saratoga Balloon and BBQ Festival is back once again at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds in Ballston Spa. There are two important differences in 2018: The Festival will no longer be held on Father’s Day Weekend; the new date is June 22-24. Perhaps, more importantly, the name of the Festival has changed: formerly the Saratoga Balloon and Craft Festival has become the Saratoga Balloon and BBQ Festival.

After four successful years, the event organizers realized that they wanted to create a bigger and better event. “With all the great entertainment our audience can have an enjoyable day,” organizer Tim Cianciola points out. “And let’s not dismiss the balloons; they are worth the price of admission. As they ascend as a parade of skyward seeking colorful balloons, actually, an amazing sight.”

This year’s Festival schedule is filled with entertainment, kids activities, bountiful BBQ, craft beer, wine slushies, bands, street performers, an art and craft marketplace, pony rides, and the balloons. During the weekend the Festival expects to launch up to 100 balloons. Perhaps, the most exciting single event is the Friday evening Balloon Glow at dusk. Cianciola says, “It’s magic, just pure magic.”

So keep the date: The 5th Annual Saratoga Balloon and BBQ Festival, at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds, June 22-24. The show opens on Friday at 3PM and closes after the Balloon Glow. Saturday runs from 10 until 8PM. Sunday hours are 10-4. Adult admission is $10, kids $5. Advance sales tickets are available on the the Festival website www.balloonandbbq.com . No dogs are allowed at the Fairgrounds.
